Default BCM problem

I took my car in for the factory recall repairs recently. I've had a "Security" light on my message center. While I was dropping it off, I had them check the codes. It came back with codes U1016, U1000, U1016, B1000, B0160, B0162, B0931. The mechanic said it pointed to the Body Control Module and that there is an after market alarm in my car that is probably causing the problem. And that it would cost in the $700 range to fix. I've looked into it and found I would need a OBD2 scan tool to reset the codes or else my car won't start after. Any advice on a scanner I can purchase or rent? Also if the after market alarm just has to be disconnected or will I have to replace the BCM?
