Default RE: BCM

Here's a bit of advice from a stealership technician..LOL.............Keep in mind that once a BCM is installed into a vehicle and configured it becomes locked.A BCM from a salvage yard is pretty much a paper weight!

Default BCM reprogramming, dealership CAN re-program?

So the dealership CAN re-program them ? I.e from the same make/model/year? I would like to try and pick up one and take it to GM for programming but I wanna make sure it can be done first. Might be hard to find the exact same make/model year but i'm sure something is out there. I don't wanna get to a dealership and have them try to give me some line like "sorry we're locked out of an already programmed BCM".

thanks

Good luck in your searches.... try car-part.com to start, and find a part nearest you.

A previously used BCM can most certainly be re-programmed. If not we would not be able sell Re-manufatured Units from Cardone. AZ can order your BCM for $99.99 $60.00 core. Several different BCM's from several different vehicles will interchange. After you buy a new BCM you need to either go to a Dealer or Shop and have it programmed or have a buddy with HPTuners do it.

Just be certain to match the OEM part number on your BCM up to the used one you pull from a yard.

No, a used BCM cannot be reprogrammed (after a certain number of key cycles). It is a paper weight at a dealership at that point

Reman/Refurb BCMs (sold by parts stores) are sent back to Motorola (or other authorized reman house) and are wiped out so they appear as new to the Tech-II.. at that point they are no longer 'used'

The only BCMs that will work are the 00-05 Impala & Monte Carlo

HPTuners cannot program the BCM in these cars... only a GM MDI or Tech-II can be used

And why bother with a reman BCM for $100 + $60 core when you can get a new one for that price? (We have a vendor over at NAIOA.com that sells GM parts at a good discount)

Bought one from a local boneyard. It came off of a 03' chevy 1500. Had it installed and reprogrammed at our local dealership for $120. It didn't fix the problem though( turns out its the Theft module)

My point is that the BCM worked.

And nearly a year later... what does a Chevy Full-Size pickup BCM have to do with the BCM from an Impala or Monte???

You cannot reprogram a used BCM for an Impala or Monte...

I tempted to try this as i have a 2001 impala where several things are going crazy such as the a/c shuts off, radio, chimes, gauges die, service vehicle soon light, low fuel light, battery light, and headlights shutting on and off are happening. I can get a bcm at my local pull it yard for about 25 dollars, has anyone else gotten a used bcm reprogrammed for a monte/impala? it must be possible or why else would u see so many for sale on ebay and car-part.com and several other places?
