Bad gas mileage no CEL

You can't compare the 2013 Impala to the Monte. The 2012 & 2013 Impalas have the 3.6 liter Camaro engine and a 6 speed auto trans. Impala & Monte SS cars had 3.29 final drive ratios, Impala & Monte LS cars had 2.86 which gave slower acceleration, but much better MPG. Supercharged cars have a 3.05.

Great information
Just reporting on what the vehicle did. However the information you provided tells the story why the Monte Carlo doesn't do quite as well it's all in the gear ratio. Thanks for the great info.

OK so I reset the MPG which was reading 27.6, I reset the fuel used which was on 104 and the Range which was on like 314 I think? But the one that reads "inst MPG" reads -E- for some reason? Is that some kind of error or something? Is that one important and if it is how do I get it to read? Its read -E- since I bought this used.
Also how do I use the Range reading? What exactly is that for?

Did you ever figure out why its throwing an -E-
I just noticed my car doing the same.
My car is also a project car I bought out for 500 blown manifold. It'd sat for 7 years before I bought it so the computer(BCM) blew on me and took a lot of things with it.
I'm currently in the process of putting the miles on it to pass emissions and unfourtnatly after 200+ miles it hasn't read the cat or evap.
Anyways.
If you could give me some advice/input on the -E- for instant miles that'd be way awesome. :-)

All I can find for information on these on the 'net is how to program them but no one seems to know how to troubleshoot one that is not working.
Does anyone have a clue why these are reading -E-?

i purchased my 02 ss in september for a great price...it had 161k miles on it with a hole in the side of the block...when i purchased the car, i knew that it needed an engine...without knowing the condition of the trans, i just replaced both at the same time...the engine has about 120k miles and the trans about 105k...i just dropped the whole cradle and did both at the same time, while replacing plugs, wires, and the infamous plenum assembly...i am getting around 22mpg...while most of my driving is city, that's still not to bad...i never rely on the message center because i have noticed that the mpg is about 2-3mpg incorrect...it will say that i am running up to 24mpg when i am actually running about 21-22...my info center has always had the -E- on it too...since my car didn't come with the owners manual, i have no idea what it even is or how to reset it
