Airbag Control Module

Airbag Control Module
I have a 2006 Monte Carlo 3LT, and my "Service Airbag" indicator came on my DIC, and would not go out. After taking it to my dealership, they determined that the Passenger Side Airbag Control Module needed replacing, and would cost a total of $916.82. ($758.82 for the module, and $158.00 for 2 hours of labor to replace it). They offered me a GM courtesy deal by giving me a 50% discount, so I only had to pay $450 plus tax. They used GM Document 1606472 to determine that the module was bad. I had the repairs done as I need the problem fixed due to having passengers in the car, and they told me that the airbag would be disabled while the indicator was on.
After looking through some of the forums and looking around the internet, I have found that others have had the same issues. They told me that if others were having the same problem, that we could say something to GM and possibly have them look into a recall?
Thanks for any responses.
