Default Advice on new or rebuilding transmission SS 1985 Monte Carlo

Hi I have a 1985 Monte Carlo SS and it’s locking up into first gear. It’s never been rebuilt and has 65,000 miles my classic car transmission guy has quoted me around 1800 because the parts are discontinued/hard to find. I currently have the oem 305 in it but I want to put in a crate 350 down the road. Are their any good transmissions that are as reliable as oem. I was planning on getting a 200-4R street fighter TCI but saw some bad reviews on it. Any advice will help. My father also suggested just rebuilding it and selling the oem transmission when I want to put a 350 in it and getting a more hp rated transmission but I’m not sure which one would be best.
