getting an engine for a 1978 monte carlo?
hi, i'm new to the site and need sum advice. i'm driving a 1978 monte carlo landau V8, and i am soon going to need a new transmission and engine. the body is in EXCELENT shape so i want this car to be nice. its got a 305 small block in it and i wanna upgrade to a 350 big block. i want a new engine, and a transmission that can hold up the engine. i dont wanna spend anymore than $4,000 dollars for both. any suggestions would be well appreciated!

Give us some more information. Were you looking to buy new? or used? 350 Big Block? Why not a Small Block? What trans are you looking at? Are you going to be doing this yourself? Or do you already have someone lined up to install?
Answer some of these then we can go from there..

i wanna buy sumthing new. its either, buy all the parts and have a buddy put it to gether or have my mechanic do it. idk if that will be pricey for a mechanic to build me an engine or not? and i meant a 350 small block. as far as a transmission goes...i'm not shure if there is a certain one i should go for but i want 1 thats good quality. wuts the best way to go for all this? i'm no mechanic, idk the first thing about building an engine. i just want to get an idea of wut kind of money i have to spend and what kind of engine&transmission people would prefer.
is there any 350 s/b engines that come in crate? or is that a bad idea?
