Default What were they thinking?

What was GM(Chevrolet) thinking when they put a 305 CI in the SS model of the Monte Carlo? lol Ive got an 86' SS and im about to restore it, thinking of going to a 350 CI or bigger, what is yalls opinion on this?

I would go 350 crate engine from GM ,you can't beat the price no core ...I got 350 / 300 hp 4 bolt main in my 1940 chevy from GM

i think they were thinking hey weve got this slice of **** motor laying around and we dont want our monte carlo to be faster than our camaro, or corvette. why would they put anything wilder in there when they could sell them no matter what motor they threw in there? what i never understood was why the 442s came with the 8.5 rear like the grand national but made less power than the 305. personally i would do a crate motor also just because its cheaper than finding a block, machinging, and purchasing parts. though gm does have some decent motors i would look else where for something stouter for the price.

No doubt about it, a healthy 350 is the way to go in these cars.

They were thinking of emissions and yes, not beating the Camaro...I worked at a GM dealership in the late 1980's.
