Default ABS Question

My 2005 MC LS I am un sure if it has ABS.

I do not have a traction control button onthe left next to the headlight switch. Its just a blank spot, but i did notice on the dash cluster there is a spot you can see abs but it never lights up. Im guessing I dont have ABS and GM just used a general dash cluster.

Reason im asking if im replacing a hub tomorrow and dont want to buy wrong one.

I guess easiest way would be a picture of under hood where the ABS control box would be.

The abs box sits by the master cylinder and the brake lines go to it. The only time the abs light will light up on the dash is if there is a issue with it. Also the brake peddle may say abs if its equipped, some vehicles have the peddle stamped and some don't.

The blank spot next to the headlight control is for fog lights. Looking at your video, it does not appear you have the ABS gear.

BEST way, look behind your front wheels and see if there is a connector coming from the wheel hub. If not, that solves that.

FYI - My wife's '05 Impala does not have ABS. Admittedly I did not know it until I changed her wheel hubs. GM installed the metal plate that goes nothing but hold the ABS sensor connector from the hub, but there were no wires on either side. But you CAN install wheel hubs with the ABS sensor (I ended up doing that on my wife's Impala). And when I ordered the hubs, at the time, the Timken ones with the ABS sensor were actually a buck or two cheaper.

Also, when you do this, don't get the cheapest hub, you'll regret it when this problem comes back in about 1.5 years. Timken hubs are highly recommended (I can normally get them from RockAuto for the W-body cars for about $1oo shipped per hub).

I've always used the air impact gun to take the axle nut on and off. I honestly don't know the proper torque spec.

I use the impact to take off, and then hand tighten it and use torque wrench. As over or under torquing causes the bearing to become faulty faster... I learned the hard way years ago.

I'm not going to dispute, I completely agree, tightening to torque spec is 100% the best method.

But I've done countless bearing hubs for friends and family, I've never had one fail pre-maturely using the impact to re-install unless it was a cheap one. I've become brand loyal to Timkens, they are rock solid. And to be honest, I don't think I've ever replaced a Timken bearing hub.

Well This car didnt have ABS at all, and the new one was a bitch to get back in.

But the humming noise has reduced a lot making me know i have to do the driver side now. As driving around turns going right, sound still there but when going around left turns its now as loud, indicating left side is bad but not that bad
