I am going througha similarproblem with my 95 3.1, I am not losing any coolant but am experiencing high temp during idle. I rev the engine and the temp drops. I replaced the intake gasket, radiator cap, and thermostat. If you find the solution could you post it or email me.

Could it be the low speed cooling fan?

as far as it goes refer to the owners manual for properly bleeding the coolant system you might not b loosing water at all and as far as it running hot when not revving the engine possibly a low speed cooling fan or a relay or possibly just the coolant not being properly bleed

Sandmanxxx is probably on the right track. I had the same type of thing going on and found that I had a huge air gap somewhere in the system. OnceI cleared the air everything was fine. I opened the air release screw (near the thermo neck) and ran the engine until warm, while at the same time squeezing the upper and lower rad hoses until the air pocket was forced out the rad neck (I also left the rad cap off during this process).

SpaceAge, I just got done doing that to my 98 LS last weekend. Mine had all the same problems listed above, and if done correctly it will fix the problem.
