95 Chevy Monte Carlo LS: problem with A/C
Lately it's been really steamy here in South Florida. And my poor car, it takes about almost an hour before the whole cabin cools off. But I have a weird issue involving the A/C. On the driver's side I can feel cool air coming through within' about maybe 10-15 minutes of starting the car. Whereas on the passenger side I can still feel warm air coming through. Sometimes I have to close the vents on that side to keep the warm from mixing with the cold. Eventually I'm going to have my mom take the car to an auto A/C specialist. I work full-time so I won't be able to take the car. But I wanted to come here first and maybe find out if anybody knows what's going on. Recently I had the door actuator fixed. So I am little skeptical on what's going on here! Is it just because it's 90 something degrees? And the engine is hot because of the weather?! Or of course because the car is 10 years old? But granted in the early morning or in the evenings it’s fine. And eventually after almost 30 minutes the cabin is finally cool.

Have you had your A/C recharged recently?

I just recharged my A/C last month, it was blowing hot air. I bought a 3 can recharge kit for $40.00. A 95 model may still use R-12, so you'll either have to find R-12 or convert your system to the CFC free R-134A (very simple to do, just have someone collect your old R-12 and put new R-134A in). On my 3.1 the low pressure service port is under the air cleaner box. Yours is probably in the same place. My car is a 97 LS BTW.
Also, make sure your compressor clutch is engaging. Mine was not, and I traced the problem to a defective relay. I got a new one for $22.00. Your system won't take any new refrigerant unless you compressor is running. It sounds like it is since you have some cold air coming in.

^this guy sounds like he knows what's up, he traced the problem all the way to a damn relay. That's what's up!

Also is it true, if I'm to purchase a new compressor, I would have to probably fork out almost $1000??[:@]
Well, since your getting cold air, I would think the compressor is working. Just make sure the clutch is engaging when you turn the A/C on. You can see it move, it's located right behind the radiator on the bottom left.
As for $1000.00 for a new one, try to find a refurb first. I found a MAF sensor for my old Riviera for $57.00 rather than the $120.00 - $200.00 for new. I found it through carparts.com.
BTW I have the Haynes Manual for 1995-2003s. I highly recommend this book.

As for the compressor, well it getting bad. When the A/C is on, you can here a loud banging noise. A co-worker of mine actually could here it when I drove into the parking lot. And he was in the building!
So for now mom is going to call AAA to find out any good A/C specialist around here. But again everyone for your help and input. It will really help me out a lot!
