There may be a chance you were sold the wrong multi-function switch. I used to have an '85 Celebrity with the same problem. I had the dealership order a new, but found the wiring harness was one wire different, otherwise identical. Had to raise hell with the dealership to get them to take the old one back and order the right one even though it was their fault.

 

#2310850 on this page is the one that was installed. I am now wondering why Monster offered this item for only $29.99 while most other places are charging over $100.00

for some reason the website address will not paste properly but I got the part at Monster Auto Parts out of Michigan

 

I just ordered a new multi-function switch which looks exactly like the one that failed. I will have it installed asap and see if the other new one I ordered and had installed is the wrong one. Thanks for all the advice everyone!

i have this issue too, gonna take apart colume and see what part looks like first so i can order the correct one.
