6th Gen Trany Fluid Leak - CV Axle
Hello all,
Here's the back story:
about a month ago, I curbed the **** out of my car after sliding on a patch of ice and broke my rim, damaged the hub.
I parked it in my drive way after the accident and it left a puddle of tranny fluid. I talked to a friend of mine, and we decided to replace the hub ourselves. While forcing the axle through the hub utilizing a hand-sledge, we smashed the spindle threads and was forced to replace the CV axle as well.
We did the replacements, reinstalled with little issue. Up to this point, The puddle in my driveway was the only leak of fluid I had noticed.
we are now to the present problem.
I am dumping trans fluid. Any where I go and park it now it will leave a puddle. I actively watched the drips after turning off the car and it was at a rate of about 1 drop every 1-3 seconds for a minute or two and then tapered off.
Is there a seal I should have also replaced when I swapped out axles? or is it more likely I damaged something else when I curbed it?
Let me know what you all think.

What did you use to remove the old axle, and where did you place this tool to get the leverage to pop the axle out of the trans? It is possible that you damaged the seal around the spindle where the axlegoes into the trans. I'm not sure if there are any trans lines in that area. But that is where I would check.
I recently replace my passenger side axle. I was told both here and at the Pep Boys that I purchased the axle from to be careful not to damage that seal.
From the sound of what you described the leak, that may be the case! Good Luck and Safe Driving!

Also if the axle is not seated all the way into the the socket and latches on to the C-clip fluid will continue to leak out. This happened to my Monte, we installed a new axle from the Supercharged monte, it was a little bit to long and failed to seat. We had to remove it and grind down the end about 1/8th inch. Reinstalled it, the C-clip caught in the groove and no more leaking.

My guess is when you curbed the Monte, it messed up the seal between the axle and trans. They are cheap and not a big deal to change out, but you will have to remove the axle again to do it.
And you don't need to drain the trans fluid, it should not leak when changing it out. But if you are around 100K miles, trans fluid/filter change may not be a bad idea.

We wanted the stronger axle the SC has. I would still take a hammer and tap on the axle to insure it is fully seated even with a direct replacement part. Who knows could be something that simple.

yeah, I went to the local Pennzoil and did the whole flush, filter, and Lucas treatment @ 100,000 a few months ago, so that stuff should be golden.
