as per the boards suggestion. pulled off the EGR, clean no blockage. engine light came on, 2 weeks later can no longer hit OD/4th gear. car shifts and accelerates to 3rd no problem. had the cat replaced 3 years ago when car sputtered.

any suggestions would be great. thx dave

 

What year and how many miles?

 

2001 ss hs 140,000 km
for others the EGR is right infront of the trans dipstick. it has a electrical connector on top

 

take it to the tranny shop and have a filter change done to it and have them power flush it.
Spounds to me like your tranny is pullged up or you have lost 4th all togeather and need to find out why

 

Not sure if this will help, but when my thermostat was bad, as in stuck open, it would not allow the motor temp to get high enough for my overdrive to engage. Eventually my temp gauge had quit working. Replaced my thermostat and the temp gauge and overdrive both work now. Hope this helps.

 

changed the temp sensor and thermo last year when guage didnt respond.
GM HAS DIAGNOSED problem as a striped shaft, 2 grand to rebuild .said it is a common problem.
had the sun gear replaced 2 years ago now this. going with mr transmission as their aftermarket parts are better than what gm can stick in for the second time. car has 160,000 km, this shouldnt happen this soon.

they have been making cars for 100 years and still cant make a bullet proof machine.
