Default 3400 oil cap stuck

So my friend needs her oil changed and the oil cap turns but wont come off. It lifts up but it acts like it gets caught on one side. Anyone else ever have this problem? Would just break it and replace it but I dont want to risk dropping those pieces in the valve covers. I figure someone put it on wrong.

I had one that just kept spinning one time but it actually just pulled off. Someone had replaced it with an aftermarket cap that just pushed in. If thats not the case and you do have to break the cap off you could just pull the valve cover so nothing gets in the engine. Its only held on by a few screws.

I had that happen on a friend's car. Twist it as far as you can in the unlock/open position (I needed channel locks in my case). Then use a screw driver or pry bar to pop it up (may take some wiggling). Once u get it off, clean the cap and the spot on the valve cover for it. Lube the ring on the oil cap with some wd40 or motor oil (to prevent it from sticking).
