I have a 2005 Monte Carlo and it will not shift into park. The key will go into all other gears without an issue. The car will not go into the "OFF" position but will start as long as in Neutral. If this is a linkage issues how the heck do I start to repair this. I have had some little issues with the transmission- press on the gas and it takes a moment before it actually moves. This doesn't happen often, but has happened. Any help is appreciated.

 

Check the neutral safety switch on the transmission and the cables that go to it.

As far as the slipping, check your fluid.

 

I hate to tell u this but ur tranny is going out. that hesitation will get worse over time and leave u stranded like my 04 SS did me in sub zero weather. my advice to u is this go to ur local tranny shop and get it checked out. 9 times out of 10 ur tranny is slowly fading.get it fixed now b4 is to late and youll have to get towed. my rebuild R&R was$1900. sorry for the bad news bro!
