Default 2003 monte ss jerking, staling, hesitating, sluggish while driving on the highway

Hi, I'm having a strange problem with my monte. While driving once in the city the engine rpms started fluctuating up to 2500 then back down to 600 or lower then back up to 1500 then back down. The engine started jerking and hesitating and making a kinda clanking sound but it only lasted about a minute then fine for a month. No check engine light ever came on. Tonight the same thing but worse. Driving along the highway I was unable to retain speed and had to pull over where she stalled. I started it and it ran ok for about two seconds then started sputtering and revving up then stalled again. No check engine light again. I cleaned the maf sensor a few days ago and it had been running wonderfully since then. Any thoughts?

Have you checked your fuel pump? I had similar problems with my camaro and the fuel pump was failing.

I have not but I'm not sure that would be it because 99% of the time it runs fine.

fuel filter might be your culprit, when's the last time you have replaced it?

Could be fuel, could still be the MAF even though you cleaned it (sometimes they are just bad)

I too had that similar problem.....after changeing my fuel filter......turned out it was MAF.....replaced it and its back to normal...... But to be safe....also ck fuel pressure to eliminate it as the culprit....MAF's arent cheap....

If you check on moradpartscompany.com you can usually ask erik if he has any used ones.

They'll warranty it for 90 days at least, and it can save some money if you are in a pinch.
