2002 Monte Carlo SS - key stuck in ignition
Just got this car so I don't know much about it but here's my main problem. When I went to turn off car - key was stuck in ignition. Would not turn to "off" so I had to unplug battery or it would run down. Forced key out of ignition. Thats when the real problem started - then it wouldn't start. So I replaced the ignition and had it towed to a Cheverolet Dealer (so they call themselves) to have ignition programed to car (thats what they called it)..... who had it for a week...today I called, once again to see if car was ready - to be told "yes it is, but we can't get the key out of the ignition"...Well HELLO and you call yourself a dealership?????? As you can probably tell - I'm at the end of my rope....any suggestions as to what could be wrong..... before I loose my mind and buy a Ford?????? LOL

This may not be the problem because it's quite simple, but you did have the car in PARK right?
I remember one time I went to the lake, pulled into the parking lot, turned the car off, and enjoyed the view. I left the key in the ignition the whole time. When I went to start it, nothing. Then the key got stuck. Then I realized that the car was still in DRIVE. Once I shifted into park, everything worked normally. Key came free and the car started the first time I tried it.

I'm not sure then why the key would be stuck like that.
Here are some possible solutions - but no guarantees.
Here is a discussion on the same issue - but involving a Trailblazer.
Hope one of these suggestions helps you out.

i just got a 2002 monte carlo about 7 months ago and i went through this exact hassle, keys getting stuck, forcing them out, and having to reset the security so the car would turn back on... but now i went to start the car and it's stuck in the ON position again the security light blinked on for a second but the vehicle still runs when i turn the key.... i have no idea how to get the key out and into the OFF position....
I don't recall what it was called, but we had a mechanic actually come to our house and he had the key out in less than 15 minutes. It was something near the gear shift. Said it gets stuck alot where people spill drinks/dirt/etc.
The key doesn't get "stuck in the on position" anymore...
