2000 Monte Carlo Stereo Problems
Hi im new to this new forum and Monte Carlos , first chevy, ive done many many stereo installations but this one has me stumped. Ive checked the harness everyone talks about that goes bad in 2002 monte carlos and up. Yet i gutted my car and could not find the orange wire that splits into 2. I found the black one but not the orange. Well to get this story straight my 2000 monte carlo factory stereo turns on but no sounds comes out , then if i plug in one of my after market stereos the jvc or kenwood the cd player turns on internally but the screen doesnt show. I do have a factory amp.
My stereo did sound a few weeks ago opened the amp up and mother board is complete, there is 3 harnesses in the trunk
1•Power and ground Harness
(Black and Orange)
2• Speakers Harness
(Multi colors)
3•And a small harness with three wires
(Unknown)
The third harness came clipped and cut when I bought the car im truly stumped please help 😭

Off hand, the radio and amp should not cause a "no start" issue. When the car does not start, leave the key in the "on" position and see if the Security message is showing up on the message center on the cluster. If so, the anti-theft system has activated. You may have to perform a simple process known as a PCM relearn (there is a well documented write up for it in our tech section). Start with leaving the key on for 10+ minutes, the security message should then stop, attempt to start the car. If it does not start repeat two more times (NEVER REMOVE THE KEY during this process). If this is not the issue, please start a fresh thread on your issue.
