Default 2000 monte carlo ss wont start intermittenly p0410 also

Not sure if its related but I disabled the alarm years ago so the car wont start, I put key in and nothing! The lights are on, battery new and after a few times of turning key it just starts. Last night I got a 0410 code, I pulled it and its secondary injection issue. I dont know if its related but I cleared it and today same thing, wont start, I just kept trying and it finally starts. 180K miles on it but I take good care of it. I did replace the ign relay aka crank relay a year ago. Any thoughts?

Don't think the P0410 is related. Sounds like the starting issue might be the ignition switch, a fairly common problem as of late as our Monte's age. Another member recently had this problem. Eventually the switch sent too much voltage to the crank and cam senors and burned both out.

P0410 would indicate your car has a California emission system. Problem is usually caused by water intrusion into the secondary air pump. The pump won't effect how the car runs, and unless you live in CA or NY you don't need it and the wire to it can be disconnected, but you will continue to get a P0410 code unless you have it deleted from the PCM program.
Here's a link to a thread about P0410 when one of our administrators, "The_Maniac" helped another member: https://montecarloforum.com/forum/mo...unction-54416/

I figured, I just had the ign switch (i believe) replaced due to the recall of the keys last year.

Just attached the P0410 link to my previous post.
As for the ignition switch recall, I haven't had it done yet, but as I understand... they don't actually replace the switch. They just modify the existing one. Here's a link to a thread that explains: https://montecarloforum.com/forum/ge...-recall-49278/

They don't do anything to switch, they just hang your keys at different angle with cheap wire key ring.

Default AGAIN! Starting issues

I replaced the ignition switch and it worked for 2 weeks then the same issue happened again, I replaced the ign switch again (warranty) and fixed for about 4 hours.. The lights come on, the battery is good and I hear clicking in the "crank" relay switch on the top box in the engine compartment. Im thinking to replace the crank relay (which was done a year ago) or its something else.. Help....

As was the case in the previous post describing the problem of another member, the cam and crank relays &/or sensors may be bad.

Where are they? Under the hood? I'll replace them.

sounds like what I went through with the S10 ignition problem.... first the ignition then then whole coulom wiring harness, but that truck has had major electrical problems, started when wires at the firewall started arcing into a ball of fire hazard .....so upside down on that rig

The easiest way to locate them and at the same time learn how to replace them is on youtube. I believe there is more than one tutorial specifically about 3800's possibly even gen. 6 Montes. I've personally never had to replace one.
