Opinion Needed: 2000 Monte Carlo ss problems
I think if you didn't have P0141 (Bank 1 O2 sensor shorted out) you would have gotten a P0171 (Bank 1 system too lean) as a result of the vac. leak. Replace the sensor and do a permanent fix on the vac. leak and you might be good to go.
MNMonteSS I am still running!! The MC hasn't died or stalled at all since putting the AC Delco MAF on it. Even though the other MAF was showing okay on the scanner.
I still have an issue, but I have to pay up my tab at the Mechanics before tackling it. I think I am going to send MonteManiac the PCM to retune it. That I think will clear up the little issue going on now with the P0420 code. It still has random times it will just idle low then surge up but it's very sporadic and it doesn't die or do it while driving, only while sitting on idle.
I am thinking the MAF would've fixed a lot on the front end, but I have a new belt, CPS, a clean IAC, clean throttle body, out of the deal. I think the fuel pump would've gone out anyways and the o2 sensor and cat.
Amazing that AC/Delco parts make that much of a difference. BTW it was $146 from ACDelco on Amazon versus $296 at local Advance Auto store.

Glad to hear the good news. Congratulations! Aftermarket MAF's seem to have a real problem with our cars. AC Delco is the only way to go.

It's good seeing people getting problems resolved and is sad sometimes that it boils down to the brand of the part.
You should never go wrong with new AC Delco parts (since that was original to these cars). But I also understand sometimes they are more costly making other options more attractive. Just happy reading some of these are simple issues.

I could not agree more.. Forums with true enthusiasts are the absolute best.
I still haven't quite had the time to replace the bad downstream 02 sensor,, that'll come thursday. Since fixing the boot that joins the purge sol., and the fuel press. regulator to the throttle temporarily with super glue and 3 zip ties (lol) , I havent stalled out in 2 days.
I might also mention i found a half a can of seafoam, and slowly induced it into the brake booster vac line. The car hasn't run better since i've had it (3 weeks)

the car died again today.
After much reading on the MAF troubles, i think i'm going to order a new Delco one. I haven't had trouble codes appear in a few days.. none appeared for the MAF, but from the description of Mandys' problem,it sounds likely.
Mandy, did you ever get a trouble code relating to the MAF? I unplugged the MAF with the car running today and it didn't seem to make any difference, also my miles per gallon has dropped a bit in the last few days

was also wondering, what would happen if i unplugged the purge sol? I cant imagine it causing any harm, I was asking because if my issue is emission related, couldn't i unplug the purge sol and see if car stalls again? not an ideal "fix" i know, but if the car will run fine w/o it, that would help with diagnosing my issue..
Unplugging the purge sol. made no difference in anything besides kicking a trouble code for it.. how unexpected!
since i bought the car ive been burning premium gas, today i had to fill up.. i recalled something in the owners manual about 89 octane, so 89 was my new choice along with a can of seafoam..
stalled once at idle in parking lot, (before filling up) but didn't stall out in my 45 miles of driving today... but not holding my breath. i threw some new plug wires in.. ive only the car 600+ miles but who knows when the wires were done, the plugs were very worn.
The MAF had a silvery underside, which is relatively ugly (not rusty).. I had some freeze-frame data on my scantool, i unplugged the EGR for giggles, and the trouble code came with this data.... the MAF reading was only at 1lb/min @ 1195RPM... i don't know what it should read, but intuition says that low...
please help, running outta ideas here... but will not be defeated! Maniac? anyone? help!!!
