Default 1986 Won't Start - Electrical help

Here's about all I can tell as far as symptoms. I'm hoping someone can help me find a place to start (no pun intended).

1986 with less than 50,000 miles. I don't believe this is mechanical. I think it's electrical. The battery is showing good with a multimeter (12.5+ volts) and it won't jump start.

When you get in and turn the key to the run position everything seems fine (buzzer, interior lights, dash lightsetc). You kick it over to start and everything goes dead...really dead. Like when you put go back to the run position everything is still dead. Turn it off and back to the run position...still dead.

You have to wait...walk a way for an undertimed amount time and eventually you can start over and do it again.

Is there a short? Some sort of circuit that kills and can reset itself. I'm pretty sure the fuses are all good. I checked the ones that seemed like would be involved with starting anyway.

Ideas, suggestions?

you have a bad battery or a bad cable connection. clean your cable and terminals, if it still wont start get a battery.
