My blinkers were messed up on my '86 LS when I got it. It was before I started tinkering with cars, so I don't know exactly what my dad did to fix it. I'm guessing on this, but I think there was is a multifunction switch in the steering column that needed replacement. Also, that lil blinker can is cheap to replace to eliminate a possability.

before you start pulling the colum apart i'd start with the easyest first. swap the flasher out.

If a turn signal or hazard flasher won't stop the problem then I would check front and rear parking and tail lights for a bad ground or short. (I had a bad light socket in my left rear tail light of my '86 Monte.) If that doesn't work, put a new turn signal switch in the steering column.

i had the same thing happen to me in my 83 ss but my steering column had caught fire just before that. it ended up beiong a short in the wires.
