Question 04 supercharged SS Cruise control issue

Just purchased a used 04 SS Monte with 110k and the cruise does not work, the on/off button seems to light up and function. So I went to the boneyard and got a used cruise box and changed it out with no results. I have read alot about the bcm symptoms and it doesnt quite seem to fit into that category yet? both 2amp fuses looked good, do I need to look at replacing the steering control button... or is this the beginning of the end of my bcm...any advice would be greatly appreciated

check your third brake light. if the 3rd brake light is out, your cruise control will not work.
