03 Monte Carlo SS Won't Start. Help!
ok guys, did some further checking this morning and the car turns over when I apply 12v to the starter, so the engine and start is ok. I checked to see if I get a signal to the starter when I turn the key and I get nothing. What do I need to check next? I replaced the ignition switch already. Could it be I received a bad one off the shelf? If I remember right it was kind of dusty when I took it out of the box.
anything is possible, could of got a defective one. i would also get out a multimeter and start ohming wires to make sure nothing it grounding out etc. check starter fuses etc. check all your grounds to make sure they are clean and tight. make sure starter wires are clean and tight.
Thanks for the input. Been checking as many wires as I can. Printed out some schematics to help.
As far as that connector goes, all it had was 3 ground wires and then it was in line in the yellow wire coming off the ignition switch. To my understanding this wire carries the signal to the PCM for crank voltage.

Do you have access to a good scan tool? If you got a CEL there should be a DTC. If that code starts with a "U" or "B" that would indicate a problem with the BCM or PCM or associated wiring.
You said you removed the alternator. There is a couple wires into the alternator that are grounds. They split off the primary alternator harness and run down to ground on a stud on the bell housing below the air intake duct. There will be one large cable and two smaller wires crimped into a single loop connector attached to that stud. This ground is necessary to complete the serial data link for the VAT system. No ground, no start. Check the smaller wires for continuity. Also check the fusible links that run under the upper and lower under hood fuse compartments beside the battery.

Thanks plumbob. I will check that out tomorrow!
Any one know where the anti theft relay is on the 03 Monte Carlos? I'm trying to check every wire and connection in the starting system. I thought it was up behind the glove box but can't find it.

There is no such relay in a gen.6.
The BCM, PCM and ignition lock cylinder chip store the passcode that is relayed through the serial data link when the ignition switch is turned to start. If it's a match the fuel pump, ignition and starter are enabled and the car starts.
