01 Monte Carlo SS - Motor Mounts
So I had my 01 Monte into the GM dealership to have a health check on it before my kid goes off to school next month..... We'll they want 575.00 to replace the motor mounts.
I am wondering how difficult of a job this is?

The upper ones are really easy, the lowers are a bit more intensive. Here are some videos for you to check out to see if you feel you have the tools and confidence to do it.
and here are some links for the poly motor mounts, keep in mind with the poly you will feel the vibration of the motor more than with stock mounts so that is normal if you decide to switch to these ones..

Just one lower (one the passenger side), but I would also replace the trans. mount (driver side) since you will already have the motor supported and engine cradle lowered. It's also a fluid filled hydraulic mount similar to the lower engine mount.

How difficult are they to replace? I have jack stands and floor jack and if needed my father in law has a lift but not sure if he has anything that would allow us to raise the engine or tranny.
Is it best to replace the uppers too? I looked at the uppers today and they don't seem all that worn but I am not expert.

Not that bad. Ideally you would have an engine support bar, but you can support the engine from below with a floor jack on the oil pan with a piece of wood between them.
The cradle doesn't have to come all the way out, just lowered most of the way. I unbolted the passenger side completely. Down pipe needs to be disconnected on the exhaust, front engine struts (dog bones) and air intake duct removed. About a three hour job.

If you're supporting from above attach to the lift brackets. One is beside the alternator, the other at front and center of the valve cover.
Avoid lifting the engine as much as possible. Lower the engine cradle intead. The mounts will drop down with the cradle if you leave them bolted tot he cradle until it's low enough to unbolt from the engine or transmission for them to clear. It's a bit of a trick to wrangle the engine mount around to get it to clear and you might have to roll the engine back a bit. The transmission mount is easier.
