Most organizations who host larger meets are beginning to require them. Let's face it, some of the cars are getting older. The first gens are 40+ now. While many of these cars have been restored, some have not. Now you are talking about 40 year old wiring in close proximity to flammable materials. All it takes is a small fuel leak close to a combustible material (hood insulation for instance) and the car can go up in flames. I've done it in my garage. Rather than making it optional for owners, it's just better to have everyone bring one. It's better to have too many available and not need them than to have none and really need them.

Iceman, thank you for posting here and answering questions. It's nice to have someone that works the event be on here now.

Last Convention I was at was 8 or 9 years ago (either 2004 or 2005), so even though I've been to them before, it's been a while. From 1997 to 2004, our family attended with Dad's 72 Monte Carlo. Since I was younger in those days, I entered my model cars in the model car show. I won 5 model car awards (between 2001-2004) for doing that. Now that I'm "grown up", this will be my first Convention with my own Monte Carlo entered in the field. I had a great time at the previous Conventions so I'm really looking forward to this.

Hey guys,

Maybe iceman can answer this but I paid my membership to the NMCOA and I am in the process of filling out the registration for the nationals. Problem is I have not been sent my membership number and I would like to send this off before June 1st. Can I send it without the membership number? Or do I have to wait.

Slugger, send in the registration now so that it is postmarked by June 1. We are going to be firm on the deadlines for registration this year. I will likely have the registrations this weekend to start laying out the show field before we arrive for the meet. You have no idea how much this will make my life easier! Just make a note on the registration that you are a new member.
