Winter Project 1: Battery Relocation
#28
Update time now that school is out for the semester!
Had some time to finish my short battery cables. Inside the box the side terminals hook up to battery and then bolt through the box to the outside where I can attach more wire to.
And since I made this out of particle board, the edges are far from nice. I applied some caulk to the edge I am trying to make a seal. Then when it was partially hardened, I flattened it with some wax paper and the lid. This will provide a smoother edge for some weather stripping to press up against. Some foam weather stripping will go along the perimeter of the lid to make the best seal I can come up with ha :p

Thanks.. pretty simple
Dropped the battery in for a test fit. I have the main power cable already ran and I hooked up the ground today. I'm using 2 gauge wire. Since I have the power cable all ran I put the box in the trunk about where it will sit and hooked it up to test it. Success! I did notice a slight drop in cranking power. Before, the dome light would dim while cranking. Now with the battery in the trunk, the dome light nearly goes out while cranking. It doesn't seem to have any problems starting the car, but I wonder how it will behave on a colder day or when the battery is not as strong.
Other than that I put a seal around the lid of my box. I'm actually quite impressed with the results. It fits great and seals good
Next I'm going to run wire loom over the power wire to the trunk to make sure it's protected and hidden. I've got a 180 amp circuit breaker coming that I will install on the power line in the trunk as soon as it comes as well.
