Default What Amp to get

I don't know much about car audio so I was wondering if you guys could help me. I have 2 12" Orion Subs, And they both are 1000 watts peak. I need a new amp for my subs, The Car audio place I go to said I should either get the Kenwood eXcelon X1200M, or the Orion XTR10001. They said the Orion XTR10001 is pretty much "bullet proof" and just all around amazing. But it is the more expensive one of the two. So are they just hyping up the Orion so I buy it? or is it actually better? Which is the better Amp?

To be honest they are pretty biased due to the fact that that is what they sell....figure what the ohms are for your 12s if 2 ohms you can wire them so they go down to 1 ohm so a 1 ohm stable amp would work well...if 4 you can wire that down to 2 if i remember correctly...so find an amp with good wattage @ the ohms you can wire your subs to...good brands are the old school precision power art series..sound stream reference series..mcintosh, or for the good stuff thats new...alpine which has new technology which puts out the same wattage at 2 or 4 ohms (expensive) JL audio..mm there are a few others but not many....you can find alot of the old school stuff on ebay but be careful when dealing with ebay!

Dont forget to look at the Rms wattage of the subs and amps, just because they are 1000 watts peak does not mean they will take 1000 watts all the time. you wanna stay right around the rms wattage of the subs so they dont blow

yea like stated above dont go by the peak power of the subs you go by rms. if you go by peak power you will blow them up. a JL amps are junk, unless you want to cook on them then they are great LOL because they run really hot. the amp that ive had for the last 7 years is a Lanzar 500.2 the best amp that i've ever had EVER. i had a buddie that was in the same boat as you, and he was looking for some amps for his 3 15's crystal comp x2's that's in his tahoe, i hooked my amp up to one of his subs and he ended up buying 3 of them.

Thanks for the reply's! I did some research on my subs and they are 500 RMS each! And i believe they are 4 ohms. http://www.orioncaraudio.com/Product...?ProductID=525 There is a link to my subs! Now between the two amps, The Kenwood X1200M and the Orion XTR10001 which one do you guys think would be the better fit?

If out of those 2 id take the kenwood. personally those model kenwood amps are junk and that orion amp wont put out the power specified or the kenwood for that matter. but the kenwood will give you much more stable and cleaner sound/loudness.

id look into some alpine amps the MRP series amps they are all underrated for power and perform very well and stay cool and are not the expensive.

here are 3 Alpine i would choose from if you got an alpine amp. in the price range you were looking at you could even get a Alpine PDX amp which is a good amp, i got the PDX 1.1000

Look Here for http://www.crutchfield.com/index.html

The Alpine Amps are on this page directly http://www.crutchfield.com/g_120/Amp...Brand%7cAlpine

Look at these 3:
Alpine MRP-M500 when u wire the sub put it in 2 ohm
Alpine MRP-M1000
Alpine PDX 1.600

You could look somewhere else and possible find these cheaper somewhere else

Thanks a lot for the response! I would probably look into the Alpines but the whole thing is i got my system from Mickey Shorrs (car audio place) and I had a different amp but one day it just stopped working so they said they would replace it! And they told me they would swap the kenwood amp with it and i would not have to pay any extra, they would just do an even swap. But if I wanted to get the Orion he would charge me 100 bucks and he swears by the orion. He says the thing is a beast! And I thought he might just be saying that to get the extra 100 out of me! So thanks, I think ill just go with the Kenwood.
