Well, the jury is in!!!

I wired all speakers today. Completely bypassing the amp.

I'd say a good 100 percent difference (of course, this is with Boston Acoustic 6x9s in the back). I wired it up AFTER I installed the Bostons. They sounded like poo wired through the amp! Prior to bypassing the amp, the Bostons did NOT sound much better than stock (at all). They may have sounded a tad worse. Not really sure.

Overall, there is a blatant increase in bass response. There is more clarity, cleanliness, and transience. There is ALOT more fullness and richness. I'm immensely impressed. I tested the system (before and after) with Gwen Stefani's Love, Angel, Music, Baby (not a word, it SOUNDS good!!! LOL) and the difference is absolutely stqaggering. I have NO idea why GM went with the system as it sits. Makes no sense to me. They obviously botched up, IMO!

Now, Monte said that he had plenty 'o bass response. Maybe my amp is (was) messed up. I don't know. A - B comparison in MY car yields a huge difference after the fact. That's all I am worried about. That's why it's now (for the time-being) hard-wired.

The only drawback is there is still a degree of harshness in the system. Important to remember that there was ALOT of harshness prior though. It's certainly not bad at all, and the system as a whole sounds 100 times better than alot of those imbecile 17-year-olds booming through Wal-mart components!!!! I am very obsessive in alot of what I do. Despite that, I think this sounds VERY good for a mostly stock system.

I'm actually contemplating not even bothering with the external amp at this point. I don't think it will yield a worthwhile difference. Who knows though. I get bored easy!

If anyone has any questions, etc, go ahead and PM me. I'd be happy to help out!

Peace!

lol time to go get a new set . yeah have to love that idea a good excuse
It's easy to justify when there's something wrong, ya know? I'd have a hard time buying some new fronts just so I can have matching front/rear speakers. But since this is an issue, and I already have Polk Audio 6x9's, im gonna get the Polk Audio db 6.5" components for the fronts.

You aren't gonna post a week from now saying how you made a mistake, this was on your Silverado, are you?

JFWY LOL

This is good to hear, however you will absolutely love the upgrade to an aftermarket amp as for SQ. Keep in mind that those Bostons are rated at least at 80rms, most likely more, and no way in the world is that head unit providing even half of that to them continuously. So you run the risk of 1. burning our the head unit and 2. burning out your Bostons. Either way, not a good look. Plus, the clarity, volume, and bass response will be so dramatically improved that you'll wonder how you ever lived w/o it.

So did you do the bypass as shown on the link I provided? Can you take a picture of your amp plug so I can see how it looks? How long did it take?

Yeah man, my 6x9's bump pretty good for only getting maybe 25 watts continuous, it catches me offguard sometimes like if the song has an extended intro before the bass kicks in, then all of a sudden "boom", puts a smile on my face every time! But man, if I can get significantly more volume out of em, that'd be something I'd consider until I can get my head unit, especially if it'll improve SQ at the same time.

Find the amp in the trunk, under the rear deck. Has the plug been modified at all? See any jumper wires or anything? If no, proceed to the next line.

With the stereo playing, unplug the plug on the amp. Did the music stop? If no, speakers are wired to the deck. If yes, speakers are wired through the amp.
