Unique cigarette lighter socket fix?
Hello everyone!
I have a problem with the cigarette lighter socket not turning off when the car is locked. My last car (96 Camaro) also did this. Its great for charging things while the car sits but my new application of a Bluetooth FM transmitter is causing problems.
The problem is that the device really needs to sit in the socket instead of in and out. I feel the socket and the device will wear out quickly with me plugging and unplugging over and over again. Keeping it plugged in will surely kill they battery over time (overnight/days sitting).
The only solution I can think of is putting an inline switch to the power wire that goes to socket.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for any help!

Update!
Well I bought all the parts and I installed an inline switch for my cigarette lighter socket.
Job time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Parts: $14 @ radio shack (switch, wire, wire connectors)
Results: Excellent!
I decided to go with a rocker style switch so it doesn't get caught on anything.
Here are some pictures!
With the switch in the on position:

Off position:
<a href="http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j187/atg284/?action=view&current=IMAG0719.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j187/atg284/IMAG0719.jpg" border="0" alt="inline switch 2"></a>
I went this route because there are times when I DO need the socket to be powered while the car is off. Usually to charge my phone.
With this setup I can have power when I need it and none when I don't
I would just like to thank everyone for their input. I found a link within a past post showing an explosion view diagram of the center console too! Love this forum!!!
Thanks again!

It was worth the time, money, and effort. Peace of mind for me anyways.
Now I just have to remember to turn it off when I leave! :p
