if it bothers you just run it to the AUX fuse.

The problem is that the device really needs to sit in the socket instead of in and out. I feel the socket and the device will wear out quickly with me plugging and unplugging over and over again. Keeping it plugged in will surely kill they battery over time (overnight/days sitting).

The only solution I can think of is putting an inline switch to the power wire that goes to socket.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for any help!
i can help you with this. you can wire in a relat and use the solid hot from the origonal wiring for the lighter, switch it with the relay and havbe the relay turned on by your ignition blue wire for the radio. simple fix ^_^ i know it sounds hard but really it's very very easy just requires to take apart the dash a bit. is yours a 7th gen or 6th gen because the 6th gen will involve allot more. the 7th will be much less because your not taking off the whole dash piece to get at the radios wiring. a simple automotive relay can be used 7$ from any hardware store. they come with labels glued onto the unit so you never have to worry about losing diagrams wire up the relay and wire up the swith on the relay, simple.

Update!

Well I bought all the parts and I installed an inline switch for my cigarette lighter socket.

Job time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Parts: $14 @ radio shack (switch, wire, wire connectors)
Results: Excellent!

I decided to go with a rocker style switch so it doesn't get caught on anything.

Here are some pictures!

With the switch in the on position:

Off position:

<a href="http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j187/atg284/?action=view&amp;current=IMAG0719.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j187/atg284/IMAG0719.jpg" border="0" alt="inline switch 2"></a>

I went this route because there are times when I DO need the socket to be powered while the car is off. Usually to charge my phone.

With this setup I can have power when I need it and none when I don't

I would just like to thank everyone for their input. I found a link within a past post showing an explosion view diagram of the center console too! Love this forum!!!

Thanks again!

Very clean install

Yet I still doubt the need for it. Cool none-the-less.

Thanks!

It was worth the time, money, and effort. Peace of mind for me anyways.

Now I just have to remember to turn it off when I leave! :p

Why didn't you just install a relay? Than its off when the cars off and on when the cars on. you still have your rear cig plug.
