Default Switching out casette player

Hey I just got a 1999 monte carlo and I am looking to put a CD player in instead of the casset player that is currently in there. In reading related messages it looks like there are other computer comonents inthe radio that I need. I am wondering if this is going to be a pain to switch out myself or if it is even possible.

Welcome to MCF Ryan!!!

You can just swap them out with other stock decks without problems. I also don't think you need to worry about anything in the head unit... I beleive the programming started showing up in the 6th gens... 2000+

To remove the current deck all I would need to do is remove the panel below the steering wheel and the one surrounding the deck and then unplug the cords, correct?

Yeah. If you are going with an aftermarket deck, you need to look at getting a dash kit(you can get them at walmart or any store that sells decks pretty much. if you don't know what you are doing 100% i would suggest getting help from somebody who does know.

I'd recommend Best Buy over Walmart. They have stereo installation departments and can better service you.
