thanks for the links! and i'm glad you said that about crutchfield. their service is second to none and they'll walk you through absolutely anything, but their prices are really high. although they do stand behind their products, and i'd just worry about buying one of those HUs on ebay and have an issue with it that the seller would not resolve. i still don't think i'd buy the HU on crutchfield or ebay, i'll probably research dealercostcaraudio.com a little more to make sure they are reputable and will most likely buy from them. if anything i might buy the harness(es) from ebay though. thanks again!

Ok, so i have another question... I have the onstar, but i dont use it, would i still need the adapter to keep power to the rear view mirror for the autodimming and lights? Why is everyone concerned with the door chimes? I thought they just bugged the hell out of everyone.

i don't believe the rearview mirror lights have anything to do with that adapter, so you should be ok without it. as for the door chimes, they are kind of annoying sometimes, i don't think there is anything wrong with doing away with them if you don't have that adapter.

they do get annoying, but some people like them and have onstar working. if you dont have onstar or dont want to keep it, then you dont have to get the adapter. i believe there is one required(the base model) that gets rid of your chimes and onstar altogether

GM12-AUXv2 Installation?
According to Crutchfield the Precision Interface Electronics GM12-AUXv2 will work.

In my 2004 i use the next version up from this one, just from looking at the two i see no differences in the two. Installation was simple, and it works great. Cheapest i found it was about $50 with shipping.

I'm looking at this one as well. Has anyone installed this before? Does it require a complete removal of the radio or just a few trim pieces?

The 12 pin port was still available for a CD changer I think. All of the docs I've seen just say it requires the "band" button.
This site and Crutchfield seem to have the most info about application:
