Question for people who have pulled thier stereo before,

The stereo is the last part on my dash to remove and get cleaned up,

Can I remove it clean it up and put it back in without having to go to the stealership or shop with a tech 2 to reset it

I'm not sure what you mean by having a dealership reset the stereo. Just disconnect the batter to be safe, remove the trim, unscrew 6 screws and the radio and HVAC controls slide right out.

i'm already far ahead of you on tearing the dash appart, doing a massivly thurough cleaning,

what i'm talking about it the theft lock, wasn't sure if it will let me take it out and put it back in without locking since it is staying in the same car or if i have to get it unlocked from the dealer becuase if it has to be reset from the dealer i just won't pull it out

I thought that lock-out was only for when the VIN# didn't match the Radio# (i.e. someone stole your radio and put it in their car)

Have you disconnected the battery since you've owned the vehicle? Did the radio still work after hooking the battery back up? If so, then the theftlock is not active and you have no worries.

If the theftlock is active then you need to retrieve a 6 digit code from the radio, call customer service to exchange the 6 digit code for a 4 digit code, then enter it into the radio.

Here's an article explaining the procedure:

How to Unlock GM Radios | eHow.com

I've never done this, but a search brought up several hits where this procedure was successful on '97 to '03 GM vehicles so I would imagine it should work on your '01.
