Call the dealer today, they couldn't say for sure one way or the other over the phone. I have an appointment friday at 10am for them to look at it.

Well, at least they did not say "no". Hopefully they take care of you on it. From the reading I've done, it's not hard to replace, but right now I think it's the principal of it. Even if the car was sold "as is" with no warranty, you paid their full price (top dollar) and while you are still on temp tags, you have an issue pop up.
I personally think it's worth the customer satisfaction for them to work with you on this. Just be polite about it (some people like to fly off the handle and make threats, that attitude can close a lot of doors).

Heres the verdict, went to the dealer today and they took it in to make a diagnosis. If they determined it was covered under warranty i ofcourse pay nothing and they'll fix it. If it wasn't covered under warranty i'd have to pay a half hour labor($55) for the diagnosis.
Attached below is the invoice from the dealer, it includes how they tested and what they found.

It's probably easier for them (and you) to just replace the entire cluster versus having the old one repaired. You (as a customer) would have a much longer down time (away from your 'new to you' car) while it's being repaired. I think they made a smart business decision that satisfied both your needs. It's refreshing to see good service like that.
