speaker upgrade
thinking about upgrading speakers in a 2006 monte, have factory stereo base unit only, i have read that the speakers are 2 ohm as I look at my speakers from the trunk they say 8 ohm on them. whats up, any help will be appreciated. can i put an 4 ohm speaker in with the factory head unit or do i need to put in a 2 ohm or another 8 ohm. not sure.....

2 Speakers that are 8Ohm wired in series would be a 16ohm load.
2 Speakers thar are 8Ohm wired in parallel would be a 4ohm load.

new to the monte here, but not new to audio.
if a reliable source (manual) told you 2ohm and you see 8ohm speakers, they must not be the factory speakers!
i cannot answer your original question because i cannot verify the 2ohm load requirement for your 06. however, assuming that is accurate, you would use 2 4ohm speakers wired in parallel. my 07 is stock, and i will go see what it has in a minute..it should be the same as your 06.

RE: speaker upgrade
Yeah.. I just had to correct that....R networkswere on the brain....
anyways.. If it were my carI would go ahead and use 4 Ohm speakers If I was happy with the sound. Here is my reasoning.
If the headunit can handle thedemand of the stock2Ohm load I am sure it would do fine with 4Ohms..
2Ohm Stock> 4Ohm Replacement (Personally I would do it)
I wouldn't go the other way around though. Well I would if I didn'tmind knowing thatI might burn outthe aplifier stage in my headunit..
8Ohm Stock > 4Ohm Replacement (I wouldn't do it.... Ot I would do it if I was willing to deal with any problems)
That is one man's opinion though.. Take it with a grain of salt...
