Port Mod For Rear Seats and another Question
I have a 2000 monte, maroon
hate that color but got it for free. I've lurked on these forums for a while and have followed several tutorials to work on my car, and mostly everything is fixed except my brake light now comes on occasionally. Anywho here's my question:
I currently have 2 12" American bass dx subs in a ported enclosure with about 500 rms total going to them, wired 4 ohms, If I get around to it I will wire them down to 2 ohms, probably bumping them up to 700 rms at least. I saw in another car that has similar rear seats as the monte an interesting mod and I'm wondering if it would work the same way.
Basically where the rear center arm rest comes down, They cut out that Back Wall behind it, so It's a very stealthy Port. works great, and they installed a few magnets to keep it in place. When the arm rest is down, their ported 10s pushed a LOT more air through that small hole, and this was with the 10s facing the trunk. Could I expect similar results??
I thought of a way to make it reversible, using magnets, basically cut it out, use sugru(moldable silicone, very very useful stuff) to make a few tabs and basically if I want to reverse it just stick it back with magnets. Does anyone have any ideas or inputs on if I would achieve the desired effect?? I'd appreciate the help. OH! If anyone can help a girl out with her brake light on in dash I'd MUCH appreciate it
I'm wondering if I disconnected or punctured a line when I ran my power wire through the grommet in the passenger side floor. As you can tell, I'm not new to the car game, more so new to the car audio thing though. I already redid all the speakers in the car and put a kenwood excelon x797 in btw and that thing is AWESOME.
Thanks again Monte Carlo Forums! Love you guys! XOXO

Hello and welcome to the forum.
First I will start with the trunk. Im thinking you essentially want to turn your trunk into a large sub box with the opening port as the armrest in the back seat. I would personally stay away from that unless you are building a show car. A good set of subs in a ported box and just fold down the back seats is easier and more useful for people that take others in their back seat. I have done this on numerous cars in the past with great results, as I generally use my trunk and had to take the speakers out frequently. If you are deciding to go that route, I would consider making a mounting plate (large piece of plywood) that will fit in the opening of where the seats fold down and put your porting in the lower corners and then use the entire trunk as the sub box, but you can still fold the back seats up when needed and still have a lot of room in your trunk.
With the brake lights, odds are you probably nicked a wire when you drilled, but it could be something like a dirty connection. There are some cars that when the reverse switch builds up with dirt it shuts off the rear breaks, the g6 is one of them, and to go to a shop to get fixed is around 300 bucks, but if you pick up a can of cleaner spray and take the time to do it yourself you are out about 10 bucks. Without seeing the car it is hard to determine this one. There are others on the forum that probably have a lot more knowledge on this than I do, but from what you said in your description I would start at the point where you drilled

I'm going to go with no.
what I have done and a few others is remove the rear 6x9's.
You really don't need them there with the subs and then they act as 2 decent sized ports.
That's the route that I would suggest as I've done it with great results.
