Maybe sounds like the wire is grounding out on something, or getting some kind of interference. I would take the door panel odd and look around to see if the wires are cut and or exposed anywhere. This happened to me when I ran speaker wire behind my rear seat in my caprice and through some metal without using some plastic grommets. The wires were toughing the metal and evertime I would hit a bumb or they would move it would pop really bad.
Let us know how it comes out.

yep, shes grounding out on something... its a pain, but take off the panels and follow the wire, it could be comming out of the head unit and grounding on another wire, or it could be pinched someplace. let us know how it goes!

Popping after the power is off could be attributed to a capacitor.

I wasnt aware that the factory systems came with a capacitor. Shoot maybe they did in an 01 Monte. I could be wrong.

The cap could be upline in the radio coming off of the power chip.

Now that I think about it, it could be the power chip itself.
