Did you try adhesion promoter at all?

 

No, that was not in the "directions". No primer, adhesion stuff, etc, which was one of the steps Pop shook his head at, & then told me I was on my own. I want to share the steps told to me, but I do not want to blow a well-respected member of this community kind of outta the water, since I really, really hold him in high regard, ... sincerely.

Thing is, unless I am totally whacked out of my skull, which at least 10 of you folks here on MCF think, once the black laid semi-mostly-reasonably decent, & sat in heated area for a few days, then the clear would not have made the black start to bubble, peel up, ... I do not know what to call it ... but you can clearly see what I am referring to in the most recent photo I posted in Post # 8.

I have got a much different plan of attack this winter, & two ways to accomplish it.

I can see the first pics you posted and I think it looks great in those. I can't see your recent one.

If you want something relfective, my experience is that clear coat "looses" that reflective quality.

I did some painting on my Throttle Body and added vinyl letters to the bracket holding the throttle cables. I did not prime it (though I probably should have, but nothing has happened to it, still looks great). I sanded the bracket to bare metal, a couple of coats of flat black (figure gloss clear would give me the end result I wanted and it did). After the flat black had cured about 24 hours, I put the vinyl letters down. I then cleared the entire thing (I think it was about 3-4 coats of clear, roughly 10 minutes between coats).

That's on a metal piece, everything looks great.
