Need help with radio problems
Hi all,
I have a 1999 Monte Carlo LS and I'm having some radio issues, I used to be able to get my favorite radio station 200+ miles away, now I'm lucky to get it from 100 miles without pure static. The range is shortened even more when I have my GPS plugged into the cigarette lighter, and if I also have my phone plugged in alongside my GPS, I could be sitting next to the radio station and not get anything but static. I know this isn't normal because I used to have no issues. Any ideas? One thing is I think the factory radio might be going out as all the lights on the buttons no longer work, the display does work however. I'm not sure what the problem is. I have recently bought an entire system (head unit, amp, subs, front/rear speakers) and I'm kind of concerned I'm going to have an even bigger problem with the massive increase in power draw.
Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

That's the first I've ever heard of it. If you already have b ought your new stereo, wire it up and find out if you have the same problem. My guess is that you won't. It won't take but an hour or two to wire in a new head unit

Do you notice any difference in reception if you unplug your phone and the gps and take them out of the car? Maybe they might be causing some kind of interference with the radio. Antenna still there and intact? Wire from the antenna still in good shape?

Thanks for the response, the issue is always present, it just gets worse with anything plugged into the lighter port, I drive 50 miles to work, which is about 90 miles or so from the radio station and I lose the station about 3/4 there, and about 1/4-1/2 there with anything plugged in, yet I can pick it up crystal clear on my ipod nano in the car with me, from triple that range, so I'm honestly thinking the radio is just burning out! I'll let you guys know when I install my system!
