need help with a new system
heres on that i found, he used a nut from a cover in the trunk (not a monte) but you can kind of see what he did, he pinched it there making a secure ground
where in the cone is the crack? if its in the middle thats usually the dust cover and wont affect it, but anything else could effect the sound, you could glue it with light weight glue just to seal the crack
It's not that it can only be that long, it's that it's better if it's only that long because the longer the wire is the more susceptable it is to picking up resistance/interference in the chassis of your car which essentially makes it an antenna, the result of which is the noise you're hearing.
Ah, so I didn't add anything as I saw fit? Not that it was ever in question. It's clear which one of us knows what's up as far as car audio, no argument there!
Is voltage carried across a ground wire? What's "a good full circuit"? Actually, nevermind, I don't even want to hear your answer.
Anywhere to the chassis of the car and to bare metal.
DO NOT GROUND YOUR EQUIPMENT TO THE BODY, GROUND IT TO THE CHASSIS! Please stop giving bad info.
That's very helpful and useful info there, that's what we need in this section...people who know what's up giving out good info!
True story! Sound deadening helps alot, it blocks alot of the road noise and lowers the resonance of your car as well as getting rid of rattles and stuff. It depends on where the crack is and how big it is. You have two options, you can either try glueing it using some CA glue or you can have your sub reconed where they basically replace all the soft parts of the sub as well as the voice coil leaving you with basically a brand new sub. www.fixmyspeaker.com is the best place i've found for recones, their customer service is top notch, David know's what he's doing and does it well!
Can you please show me the dust cap on a JL Audio W7 sub?

I wanna add a little to the "grounding" issue. I never used somthing that was already in the car. I have ALWAYS drilled/tapped my own ground holes to make the wire as short as possible. And so I could always use a 4 gauge eye, just to make sure I have the best ground possible. No more from me on this.

that ground is horrible
that wire is too long
you need to scrap the paint of with sandpaper to the bare metal for your ground.
All fixed magnet loudspeakers have a dustcap if they don't have a phase plug, whizzer cone or coaxial driver. As was said, the dustcap covers the hole cone to give a smooth concave look. Other examples are the RE Audio subs, Acoustic Elegance AV line and the Image Dynamics subs.
just throwin it out there big shot
just throwin it out there big shot
its a nut to the chassis, its not my car, and the wires a little over a foot
it was for a satellite radio antenna if i remember correctly, so it didnt need to be super great lol, i was just tryin to give him an idea of it
