need help with a new system
Yeah, you're destined to get a bad egg here or there at some point but for the most part unless you do something to mess them up, most quality audio equipment will last far longer than the manufacturers warranty. I have no issue with buying stuff online for cheaper, you just have to know the risks you're taking when doing so and can't complain when one of those risks come to fruition.
Hahaha, just trying to show how ridiculous his comparison is. Nankang is an inferior off-brand tire.
Sounded to me like he bought one of those build a box kits and tried to use it for his Type R.
Yeah, BB is a rip-off for car audio but there's something very comforting about being able to make a short drive to your local store to buy/return something vs. waiting/paying for shipping to and from your online vendor of choice.

you let your mind wander and add stuff to things as you read dont you. if you read it, it wasnt a comparison, it was saying that having too small of a box is bad, for both the sub and sometimes the owner, depending on the sub if the owner has it exposed, so in reality it wasnt a rediculous comparison, and the sony box was built to spec for a ported box, and the hole was also drilled to spec, done by myself
You said the box for your Xplod was sealed...if that's the case they why was it built to spec for a ported box? Makes absolutely no sense! And Sony recommends 3" ports, not 4", the length of said port depends on the volume of the box. They don't suggest to just drill a hole in your box and call it ported so clearly you didn't build that box to spec like you're saying.
I'm not pointing this stuff out to dog you bro, i'm really not, i'm trying to get you to see where you went wrong before so you don't make the same mistake again. Learn something you may not have known or weren't sure of, soak up this knowledge i'm giving you. There's nothing to be ashamed of, I was once where you are in regards to my grasp on all things car audio. Nobody taught me how to hook up a stereo, amp, components, xover, eq, how to run active, how to tune, how to build boxes, these are all things I learned on my own from hands on experience and guidance/suggestions/tips from friends and people online. I liked when they told me how stupid I was(well, not really, but I never made that mistake again!) for hooking up a deck wrong resulting in it resetting everytime the car got turned off and back on. I've been the "car stereo guy" for the past 18 years, can hook up and dial in systems all day but have only built one box ever, and that was just last week! I don't know it all, but I know enough, and I know that if I want to keep learning it's best if I don't argue with those who know more than me about building boxes. I soak up as much of the knowledge they share with me as I can so when it's time to build another I can make better decisions and hopefully end up with a better product. You really ought to do that yourself cause all you're doing is showing how ignorant you are when it comes to car audio.
Why can the ground wire only be 12 to 18 inches? Tonight ill make a video going over my system from where my powers and ground are coming/going and where everything is hooked up at, so everyone can get a inside look on how my system is set up.
What's to wander about? Did you not say ported sounds better than sealed in your car? Did you not "prove" that you aren't just pulling that out of your *ss by telling us about the tiny sealed box you were warned would get blown apart by your sub? Did you not tell us that after your experience with that box that you bought "the real box" which apparently is an adequate ported box? So what part did I add in there myself? Am I wrong by concluding that you've come to the conclusion that ported boxes sound better that sealed based on your experiences with both? Or did I make that up too? Kinda lost as to where I wandered off and added stuff

back to this, it has to do with resistance, the less length you have, the less resistance you will have. so the longer the wire, the less voltage gets to the amp, because there is not a good full circuit, which can cause the amp to go into protect mode.
you can put a screw directly into the body for a ground, or any bolts that are connected to the chassis, like seatbelt bolts, you just need to make sure its something without paint on it so it has a good connection to the steel, so if you were to drill into the body, it would be touching the metal, when i get home ill try and take a pic of where mine is cuz i dont remember were i put it ha, but ill post a pic
I wanna add a little to the "grounding" issue. I never used somthing that was already in the car. I have ALWAYS drilled/tapped my own ground holes to make the wire as short as possible. And so I could always use a 4 gauge eye, just to make sure I have the best ground possible. No more from me on this.
