Default Loss of sound?

A while back I had a pair of subs and amp I had laying around installed along with an alpine deck.

Long story short, the voice coils where burnt on my subs & fried my amp. (not worried about that)

What bothers me is when I'm driving the sound doesn't get as loud as the factory deck, and on the highway I can barely hear the words in songs.

Any ideas?

Are you still trying to get music out of your burnt amp? or did you connect the factory speakers directly to the Alpine?

If you have it directly to the Alpine, then you might want to check the ohms on the speakers. Its possible that they are 8ohm if so, then your going to have alot of loss. Change out the speakers to 4 ohm and you shuld be ok.

All the wires are disconnected in the trunk, amp & subs are out. Power of course is unhooked from the battery.
The alpine just has a GM chime module/adapter attached to it.
