Inline power from ECM/PCM Cluster?
Hi all,
I took my monte to a local stereo shop to bypass the onstar harness in the trunk (because the amp fried) and just noticed that they ran 2 wires to the fuse box on the drivers side.
They ran the constant to the door locks and the power to the PCM/ECM cluster. They stripped the wires and simply wrapped them around the fuse legs.
I went to get my car to pass emissions and it failed because the computer was "not ready". Prior to the visit i cleared the check engine light with my scan tool, but it would keep coming on at 5 miles each time.
I removed the wire from the PCM fuse and reset the battery and have not seen the engine light on in 100 miles.
Have you ever seen anyone tie into these fuses and could it cause the computer to fail emissions?
thanks all

RE: Inline power from ECM/PCM Cluster?
hmm y they chose those 2 fuses...i have my amp powered into the fuse for the winshield wipers
as for the failed emissions test ur amp has to be grounded and if they ran ur power to the pcm that meansits grounded twice...im not sure if that could cause the problems but id guess that it would considering u have 2 circuits and that could send power spikes to the pcm...

Txs for the reply kweef.
Right before I started this thread, i switched that power from the pcm to the wiper fuse. I didnt think that would hurt anything.
What you said said makes sense regarding the spikes back to the pcm.
We will find out once I put the car through the drive cycle.
txs again for the advice!
