Headaches installing new 6x9s in the rear
I'm having a super annoying issue I'm hoping someone can help with. I bought a new HU and rear 6x9 speakers (decent ones, some good pioneers). I hooked everything up -- stereo works awesome, front speakers work awesome, rear speakers have almost zero bass. If I turn the fader all the way to the rear everything sounds distorted with no bass going on.
I installed the rears by cutting off the factory harness end and connecting the wires directly to the speakers.
So far I've tried reversing the +/- thinking I might have accidentally switched them and I tried putting the stock HU back in -- both ways the rears sounded cruddy. Any thoughts as to why I'm getting cruddy sound from these new rears?

This is the only thing I can think off..... are your front speakers aftermarket also?? I had the problem of the factory amp not being able to power the new aftermarket speakers and then it got to the point where it just wouldnt power the speaker anymore. I ended up running a aftermarket amp to run the speaker and they sound great now! So what it comes down to is that the factory amp is not powerful enough for aftermarkets.
If you have the time and money, I would recomend putting in like a 500 watt amp and running the speakers off of that, you will get a lot better sound quality and it will def be worth it! ope this helps!

I might have to go the amp route...Forgive my ignorance but is it the same type of work involved with installing a subwoofer amp? Am I going to be running cable from the engine bay to the trunk? I was trying to avoid the whole wiring in a subwoofer. I'm not big into HUGE bass, I just wanted upgraded bass which is why I bought the 6x9s hoping I could just drop them in. Sounds like this is going to be a lot more work than I expected...
Yes you are correct, you will have to run either a 4/8 gauge wire to the trunk which isnt to bad and instead of setting your amp to "Low pass" ( used to run a sub to just strictly get bass), you would set the amp to "High Pass" and run new speaker wires from your amp to the speakers. Running it on high pass will give you a clean sound where you can control the amount of bass (bass boost controller) right from the amp. So in theory.... you can have clean sound with no bass from the speakers ( or whatever bass level you desire).
The only other main wire you will need is from the back of your HU, it should be a blue remote wire and that will run back to the amp also. Also a set of rcas from the back of the HU will be needed. Then just ground out the amp and your set!

6x9's were my first upgrade running on the oem amp.
i wasnt getting any bass either, fyi i believe 6x9's can only play 80 hz and above.
anyways there is a high set of wires for the rear and a low set, kind of a built in crossover. if you got coaxials they should have two seperate inputs[4 total]. GL hope that helps. i was super confused cause i wanted to use the crossovers that came with the speakers, but didnt untill i upgraded the amp.

6x9s will play any frequency you send them (basically), they just won't do it very loudly/cleanly if it's a lot of bass. They'll play below 80 Hz, and if you're not going to run a sub, I would definitely run them lower than 80 Hz. They're just not as loud on the factory amp because they're far less efficient than the factory speakers, which means it'll take more power to reach the same volume. You'll need an aftermarket amp to do that.
Make sure your polarity is right, because that will have an effect. Last I checked (it's actually been a while but I don't think it's changed), most 6x9s only have one set of terminals per speaker, not two. The crossover is usually built in to the speaker. I know for sure that on 00-05 Montes that there is only one set of wires to each rear speaker from the factory, so that shouldn't be an issue here.

well maybe my oem amp was different that yours, and my speakers are higher quality than yours. im just going by what i put in may car.
i dont run kicker or alpine. the stuff i have didnt come from best buy or ebay either.
good call on the amp because you have the same gen.
dont listen to him on the 80 hz thing. he likes to run million watt speakers on 10 watt amp. im sure hes able to play anything on full blast with no proble. you will get distortion if you try for less then that on a co-axle, 2way, 3 way 7 way speaker. you'll never be able to get louder music then you have now. which is your plan right???
