Default 6x9s

Anyone try and put 6x9's in a 85-88 Monte? I hear from some people that the magnet hit's the torsion bars that hold the trunk up. Can anyone give me a straight answer before i go out and buy all the speakers and brackets?

I have put them in both an 1980 Cutlass and have them in an 1983 Grand Prix. I can't recall if they hit the trunk support bar ( I'll go and look at the Grand Prix tomorrow.) Well here is a picture of the trunk of the Grand Prix.

I ran into the same problem on my '87 cutlass supreme. 6X9's won't fit with the stock bracket. The factory size is 4X10 and a few companies like Pioneer make aftermarket 4X10's.Either way good luck.

They make an adapter to fix into the Monte Carlo, but I heard that those bars can get into the way, and I figured I'd ask before I went and bought speakers and those brackets...

I looked at my Grand Prix last night, the magnets on the 6x9's do rest against the trunk bars. I can't remember if I tweaked the bars slightly or not. The trunk does open and close fine.
