Finally, a video of my SA-12's in action
area of a square - Area = a2
2 15" Kicker L7's would be
15 x 15 = 225
15 x 15 = 225
450 sq in of cone area
area of a circle - Area = πr2
3.14 x (9)(9) = 3.14 x 81 = 254.34
3.14 x (9)(9) = 3.14 x 81 = 254.34
508.68 sq in of cone area
The 2 18's have more cone area still, that is if you use MECA's official way to determine cone area. I wish you all the luck with hitting those high DB numbers with your setup, if you are able to post a video of it up on the site. Ive never seen 2 L7's in a trunk of any size hit anything close to 155, hitting 155 in a trunk is quite difficult even with using better equipment
I like your Sundown setup though 04MonteLS, I myself have been running RE for years now. Gratz on getting it together to, ive been meaning to post more on this site so i'll start today i think
OK' lets just start this off with the word like I said it is like having 2 18" round subs not I had 2 I know I have 2 15" subs according to the rules . next we are talking how much actual air is being moved because the surface area of the speaker. The way the MECA tells you the get the area of the sub is not the true cone surface area. To figure the true amount of surface area is is measure the sub on the diagonal it this will give you the true cone surface area of a square sub
Now a small history lesson: manufactures (Kicker and MTX) started to make square subs as a way to almost cheat to get a bigger sound in a lower class for competition same as when they first started to make dual voice coils the rule will change sooner or later especially as more and more people compete with them
I just put in my new amp for the front staging tonight and I have my trunk lid off at this point to reinforce the deck lid its self we had a 5/8" flex in the center of the trunk lid every time the subs hit at high volume I will have my daughter post a vid when I get the deck lid back on the car
and will be glad to post it up I will tell you when my subs hit you can see the hood of the car even flex . I know that to a person that has a smaller system has a hard time trying to under stand how to get a system to hit this hard but I will tell you that is all about ,large amounts of clean power ,building the right box ,time, money, and eliminating flex the metal car, windows, ect, ect I have seen 1 single 8" sub hit 150 db and you can do it to if you have the time and money
Wow!! this is why I stay away from these car stereo threads everyone thinks they know something ! and don't !! example ; I don't know anything about how to put a video on you-tube like you !! but unlike you I sure would not try to tell you how to do it!! I have some common sense if I don't under stand something I ask... not go around talking like I know something I don't!! LOL hey if you don't like Kicker say it sucks that is your opinion and I am cool with that but don't try to sound like you are giving advice when you don't even understand what I have and have never used this equipment or even seen one like mine

sorry for going off on you man (Tzarm) but I take car audio very seriously and have sold ,installed and competed on a national level for 15 years total all I would say if you don't understand just ask I was just simplifying what I was saying in the quote you used.. I said it because it is easier to understand for the novice car audio person
once again sorry for going off on you

Sorry for going off on me? I take car audio very seriously as well and id like not to be stereotyped as just someone who thinks they know something but doesn't.
No need for the history lesson please as im well aware
I dont want to be told what you hit or see your car flex, (some people loosen the bolts on their trunks to get more flex out of them then brag about how much flex they have), I want to see the TL score, not just a picture since I can go google one myself.
Hitting 150 with one 8" sub is extremely possible, I'm just saying that from what I read it'd be very hard to hit 155 in a trunk in your situation. Hell look at what Alan Dante has done, with one DD 9918Z running off stetsom amps he was able to get 180.5 legally on the TL so I am very well aware of what is possible with a single 8.
Arguing over car audio is never ending cycle lets stop here and move on
