Default Driver's door speaker mystery

I've got a 2001 LS. Bought the car just a few weeks ago. It currently has a little over 15K original miles on it. The speaker in the driver's door is not working. I checked the balance and fade settings. Both are ok. The left rear speaker works, but the left front isn't producing any sound at all. I pulled the trim panel off the driver's door to check things out. t found a 4ohm speaker w/tweeter. It has a two-wire connector. The speaker and connector both checked ok. I went into the trunk and inspected the connectors at the amplifier. Those seemed to be tight and undamaged as well. The radio itself also seems to be like new. Everything about the audio system works fine EXCEPT the speaker in the driver's door, and I can't see anything at all wrong with it. I'm stumped. Any ideas on what might be causing this problem?
