Cooling My Amp

Cooling My Amp
I have a 350W Dual amp mounted in my trunk, it runs great most the time, but when it gets above 70 outside (which in texas happens alot) the amp overheats and shuts off to protect itself, the only way i can help keep it cool is to fold down my seats, even then i have to be goin above 40 for enough airflow to cool it. Is this just cause its a cheap walmart amp? bad place to mount it? anyway i can keep it cool without having to fold my seats?

yeah, if you have one of those dual's from walmart, it probably dont have a fan. it has a heatsink, which are pretty much pointless cause they heat up and keep the heat inside the amp. i would recommend getting a new amp or at least find some way to keep it cooler. and another thing, if you keep heating up your amp untill it shuts down, you can really cause some harm to the electrical in your car, not to mention when an amp heats up that much, it hurting your battery and alternator. how? as your amp gets hotter it needs to draw more power from the sorce.

Yeah it doesnt have a fan, the "heatsink" is maybe 1/4 inch fins on the sides. I'd like to get a new amp and some subs... but I'm a tad broke at the moment. Think if i take some 12v Computer case fans and have them aimed at the horrbile excuses for heatsinks it would make much of a dif? or am i better off replacing it?

oh yeah, that would for sure help out and lessen the stress on everything. youre are better off getting a new amp though but if youre broke the fan would be fine for now. just make sure if youre running it from somthing like straight off the battery, you need to have an inline fuse on the positive side. just so we are talking about the same thing with the heat sinks, they are on the inside of the amp. they look somthing like this:
