Everything is looking good except car audio. So he is looking to buy speakers and head unit and wondering what should he buy. Well, he doesn't want something extremely loud with a lot of bass. He prefers a good sound quality.

Any recommendation..?

 

Any budget? Are you wanting an aftermarket amp too?

I'll start you off, though, by suggesting Pioneer, Eclipse, and Alpine headunits. Look for what each offer in your price range and compare the features they have. Choose whichever matches your needs the best.

For speakers, definitely be looking to 6.5" component speakers for the front. Your options here may be largely influenced by your budget, but you can start by checking out brands like Alpine, CDT, and JL. For the rears you'll need 6x9s. Look at the Alpine Type R, Pioneer D-series, and similar others. Stay away from 6x9s that are 3-way or more because they're just stupid lol.

 

Just curious why you say and think that....I had the Alpine Type R..then now moved on and installed the JL Audio TR Evolution 6x9 3-Way and there much more Louder, Crisper and Clearer...Im looking to install the C2 Evolution next so they match my 6.5" in the front

 

Having all of those tweeters thrown in there is just overkill unless you like a really bright sound. And while I don't know how the crossovers are set up for those, I would imagine every tweeter plays the same frequencies, so having 3 or 4 different types of tweeters playing the same thing probably causes all sorts of cancellation.

Ideally, you really just want one tweeter "source" on each side of the car in the front, whether that be an array or just one tweeter. Having having eight tweeters in the rear deck (if you had 5-way 6x9s) doesn't make any sense and really kills your imaging. This is why when you look at 6x9 speakers, you'll probably notice that only the lower end speakers come in 3,4, or 5-way designs. It's a market thing for customers that don't know better, thinking "more is better". Once you start looking at a manufacturer's higher 6x9s, they usually have at most one tweeter.

 

I agree with having 4 plus tweeters...4 or more is a waist. 3-way is typically designed for lows mid and highs, which is what makes 3 ways more common or beneficial.

I would only buy a 3-way for a 6x9 my 6.5 or similar speakers wouldn't need it, going to the component set would be more beneficial

 

Only 3 way set I ever saw that I would buy was a long time ago- one of the higher end companies offered a set with a 8", 4", and tweeter (obviously separate components)

I used to work in car audio- and people used to go nuts over a speaker having so many extra 'ways'- I think we even had a Sony set that was a 5 way- of course 4 of those were tweeters, lol.

 

Yeah, I'm pretty sure brands like Focal and Rainbow still offer 3-way component setups, but they cost a pretty penny. Very different from a 3-way 6x9.

I gotta be honest though, when I was 16, my first (and only) set of 6x9s were 4-way Pioneers.
