Default Aftermarket Deck

Alright, i know this has been beaten to death but i want to clarify some things. I went to purchase a deck and get it installed on my 04 SS and was told in addition to all the equipment there i needed a 120 dollar extra harness or else the deck will not function. I have read on this forum that the harness is required ONLY if you wish to keep door chime and steering wheel controls. If i do not purchase this harness (which i dont want to, especially not for 120!) will the deck still function properly, just without the above features? or are there other complications?

Thanks
Anthony

First you can get the harness for alot less on E-Bay.. I got mine for $80 without the steering wheel controls... Those I got for another $20. You can get a simple harness to run it, but you loose tons of other things like the alarm, keyless entry programming, and some other things.

If you already have steering wheel controls I don't think you would want to loose half the functionalilty by skimping out on this. It actually helped me pickup a girl because the guy she met had a GrandPrix and skimped out on it. His reply was the controls didn't work and he didn't know how to fix it. (Putz) She saw mine working and new I wasn't someone that half @$$ed it.

It wasn't the fact that it was just steering wheel controls. It was that I put more effort into mine... or at least had more money to spend.

Don't rember the numbers, but the brands are PAC and Scosche. You can goto either website and search for your specific application. Also check Summit Racing for possible discounts and Ebay as well.

when you put an aftermarket deck in any vehicle you need a new wiring harness and a new face plate for it as well
